United Way scores $3,300 at Long Island Nets game

Bank of America donated $300 to United Way of Long Island for each three-pointer made by the Long Island Nets during the team’s game against the Maine Red Claws last Friday night.

The fans at Nassau Coliseum were ecstatic as they watched the Nets cook the Red Claws in a 129-111 victory, clinching the team’s first-ever playoff spot and extending their current winning streak to 8 games.

Dzanan Musa, Tahjere McCall and Jordan McLaughlin made two three-pointers each, while point guard Shannon Scott drained five shots from behind the arc coming off the bench. Those 11 three-pointers netted a total of $3,300 for United Way.

The donation will benefit the nonprofit’s veterans programs including its signature VetsBuild, which provides free job training in green construction for veterans and their families.

The Nets will look to extend their winning streak to 11 tonight when they travel to Maine to play the Red Claws again.
