Town of Smithtown residents can safely shred sensitive documents at a free paper shredding event next month.
It’s the town’s second paper shredding event of the year.
“Twice a year residents can safely and securely dispose of unwanted documents while helping the environment,” said Ed Wehrheim, town supervisor. “Residents get in and out fast and can go back to enjoying their weekends.”
More than 340 families attended the shredding soirées last year. The town collected more than 10 tons of paper, which was safely destroyed by Hauppauge-based Data Shredding Service, Inc.
The company is handling secure destruction of all personal documents brought in this year as well.
The shredding event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 at town hall, located at 99 W. Main St., from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
