“Seussical The Musical” begins month-long run in Northport

The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport presents “Seussical The Musical” throughout the month of April.

The whimsical show, based on a book by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, features an all-star cast, including three local child performers. The production is directed by Andrew McCluskey, the choreographer is Jillian Sharpe, who also plays Mayzie in the show, and Nicki Winzelberg is the musical director.

In the show inspired by the works of children’s author Dr. Suess, the Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who sets off to save a speck of dust containing The Whos from destruction. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of doubters, while guarding an abandoned egg, left to his care. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, imagination, loyalty, and community are challenged and emerge victorious.

“Seussical The Musical” is part of the Engeman’s Youth Theater series, which is sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

The show is presented at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, April 2, 16, 23 and 30. There is also an 11 a.m. performance on Wednesday, April 5.
