Patchogue Family YMCA awarded $5K from Folks Insurance Group
Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have awarded Folks Insurance Group a 2024 Make More Happen Award for its volunteerism with Patchogue Family YMCA.
The award includes an initial donation of $5,000 for Patchogue Family YMCA, which can be doubled to $10,000 by having community supporters vote online.
The Folks Insurance Group and Patchogue Family YMCA community story is highlighted on the official Make More Happen website, where supporters can vote to help the team reach their donation goal. If the featured story receives a mix of at least 500 votes and comments, the $5,000 donation will be raised to $10,000.
Celebrating 13 years in the community, Patchogue Family YMCA has grown dramatically on Long Island, especially its universal pre-K programs, and currently provides facilities and teaching to three Long Island school districts. The $10,000 donation will help the nonprofit with its capital fundraising campaign to renovate and reconfigure its facility to add more pre-K classrooms. Additionally, the donation will help resurface the gymnasium floor for the young and old who participate daily in basketball, soccer and pickleball.
“We are honored and incredibly grateful for being awarded the 2024 Make More Happen Award so we can continue to help our community and give back even more to Patchogue Family YMCA,” James Folks, Jr., president of Folks Insurance Group, said in a written statement. “Patchogue Family YMCA has had a significant impact in the Long Island-area and are thrilled to double the donation with community support.”
As chairman of the Patchogue Family YMCA, Folks runs monthly board meetings, assists in planning fundraisers and, along with its agency team, participates in annual golf outings that raise money to send children to summer camps and monthly food distributions. The agency also contributes funds and sponsors various events for the YMCA throughout the year.
“Recognizing independent agents’ dedication to their communities and nonprofit partners is what the Make More Happen Awards is all about,” Michael Finnerty, Safeco Insurance area region senior territory manager, said in the statement. “Folks Insurance Group is a shining example of the amazing work agents do in the Long Island-area and we hope by sharing inspiring stories motivates others to do the same.”
Throughout 2024, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 37 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $370,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies became eligible for the award by submitting an application and photos demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit.
