Cona Elder Law to host annual caregiver conference in Melville

The 6th Annual Cona Elder Law Caregiver Conference returns to the Hilton Long Island in Melville next month.

The free event for caregivers, to be held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, will feature a discussion on “The Loneliness Epidemic: Tackling Isolation, Care Needs & Finances In Senior Living,” as well as over two dozen elder care industry sponsors and exhibitors.

“Loneliness has been declared a public health epidemic by the US Surgeon General because it reportedly leads to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and depression,” Jennifer Cona, founder and managing partner of Cona Elder Law, said in a written statement. “The majority of adults aged 65 and older report feeling lonely. For this already vulnerable population, it is critical that we consider alternatives to aging-in-place.”

This year’s conference will focus on social senior living options and explore key differences between assisted living, independent living, continuing care retirement communities, the assisted living program and the consumer directed personal assistance program, exploring different options for family and financial support.

The conference also plans to include discussions about financing senior living, asset protection planning, Medicaid planning and eligibility, and practical tips for determining the best way to finance needed care and services.

Cona Elder Law will also present its annual “Caregiver of the Year” award at the conference.

The event is sponsored by SeniorCare Companions, Inc., Life’s WORC, Long Island Alzheimer’s & Dementia Center, Heritage Harbor Financial Associates, Jerusalem Memorial Chapels, Senior Health Plan Specialists Inc., and Handled Real Estate, with presenting sponsors including Gurwin Healthcare Systems, Amber Court Assisted Living, The Bristal Assisted Living, Encore Luxury Living, Community Care Home Health Services, Family & Children’s Association and Cona Elder Law.For more information, visit www.conaelderlaw.com.
