American Legion post celebrates 100th anniversary

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Daniel Panico joined Commander Fred Tartaglione Jr., officers, auxiliary members, Sons of the American Legion, veterans, elected officials and guests on June 27 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Legion William Merritt Hallock Post 155 in Lake Ronkonkoma.

For a century, Post 155 has carried forward the American Legion’s mission of supporting veterans, promoting patriotism and strengthening the community through service.

Throughout its 100-year history, the men and women of Post 155 have honored the nation’s heroes through Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, scholarship programs, support for community initiatives and countless hours of volunteer service that have made a lasting impact on generations of residents.

The centennial celebration held special significance as the nation prepares to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. While one milestone honors the founding of the United States, the other recognizes a century of local citizens whose dedication has helped preserve the freedoms secured through the sacrifices of generations of American service members.

Panico congratulated the members of Post 155 on reaching this remarkable milestone and thanked Tartaglione Jr., along with the officers and members—past and present—whose dedication has ensured the continued success of the post.
