Huntington nonprofit to hold its first golf outing to help LI families facing cancer

Huntington-based nonprofit Ribbons Rising is hosting its first ever Ribbons Rising Golf Outing at The Muttontown Club in Muttontown on Monday, October 19 to raise funds to help Long Island families meet the challenges typically faced by families fighting cancer. 

“The outing will be a ‘pink out’ in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re encouraging everyone to wear their pink best… It should be such a fun day for a great cause,” said Kristen D’Angelo, a breast cancer survivor and founder of Ribbons Rising.

Ribbons Rising provides direct financial assistance and practical support tailored to each individual or family’s needs. Assistance has included medical and personal care needs such as prosthetics, specialized prosthetic running blades, and wigs; transportation to treatment; grocery cards and meal-delivery services; and connections to licensed counseling and emotional-support resources.

“Every person’s cancer journey is different, and so are the challenges that come with it,” D’Angelo said. “Sometimes what makes the greatest difference is something very practical, a ride to treatment, groceries for the week, a wig, counseling, or help paying for something insurance doesn’t cover. Our goal is to be there when someone needs that help.”

Proceeds from the outing will directly support Ribbons Rising programs and assistance for individuals and families affected by cancer. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and a shotgun start will follow at noon. The evening ends with dinner from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
