SCPD Marine Bureau helps extinguish Ocean Beach fire

Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Marine Bureau responded to help put out a blaze on Fire Island on Friday.

The fire broke out in a shed at a home at 165 Bay Walk in Ocean Beach.

Ocean Beach Police Department officers responded and requested assistance from the SCPD and local fire departments once the fire started spreading.

Officers from SCPD’s Marine Alpha, Juliette, Marine 1, and Marine 3 responded, deploying their pump and fire hoses to douse the flames and keep it from damaging any more property. SCPD Aviation Section officers also responded to alert the teams on the ground of potential hot spots.

Multiple Suffolk County Police officers were treated for smoke inhalation, but no civilians were injured.
