Brookhaven hosts “Every Day is Earth Day” cleanup at Cedar Beach

The Town of Brookhaven hosted its “Every Day is Earth Day” cleanup event at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai last week.

The event, which brought together community members committed to protecting and preserving the local environment, was hosted by Nicole Pocchiare, the town’s environmental educator.

Over 50 residents volunteered, successfully removing 86 pounds of litter and debris from both the beach and the harbor shorelines. Among the volunteers were members of Boy Scout Troop 272, who played an active role in the cleanup.

“This event is a great reminder that caring for our environment isn’t limited to just one day, it’s something we can all contribute to year-round,” said Councilwoman Jane Bonner. “We are grateful to the volunteers who showed up and made a meaningful impact.”

The event is one of several community cleanups scheduled in the near future, offering additional opportunities for residents to get involved and make a difference.
