Foundation selling bricks to benefit scholarship program

The Gino Macchio Foundation is selling bricks to help fund its Put Recovery to Work scholarship program.

Proceeds from the bricks and the creation of the Brick Path will help fund salaries for people in recovery for employers here on Long Island. The Put Recovery to Work program matches people in recovery with employers who get certified as Recovery-Friendly Workplaces.

John Cochrane, an owner of an insurance company and an Islip Town councilman, purchased the first brick.

“I am proud of the work of the GMF,” Cochrane said in a written statement. “Getting jobs for people in recovery is essential for continued recovery. A good job is good for them, their families and for Long Island’s economy.”

The GMF’s Put Recovery to Work program is a post-recovery program to assist in the on-going battle to overcome substance abuse issues.

“Post recovery support is just as important and a stable job is step one on the continued path to recovery,” Sabrina Macchio, GMF president, said in the statement.
