Groundbreaking for RiseWell health clinic and youth center
Joined by dozens of dignitaries and community stakeholders, RiseWell Community Services held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 22 to celebrate the start of construction for the Anthony Angelo Health Clinic and Wyandanch Youth Center in Wyandanch.
The brand-new, two-story, 8,000-square-foot facility at 8 S. 18th St. is expected to be completed by mid-2027.
RiseWell’s existing integrated health clinic, located nearby, has been transforming lives in Wyandanch for nearly 10 years. With the rising need for behavioral health services, youth services, and more in the community, RiseWell outgrew its existing space and acquired the property at 8 S. 18th St. to allow for an expansion.
The new facility, which includes new state licensing as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center, will enable RiseWell to provide integrated behavioral health treatment, advanced youth services, primary care coordination, wellness services, and peer services under one roof to advance comprehensive, holistic care for the Wyandanch community and beyond. The new site will feature a designated youth center, wellness center, over 15 consultation rooms, children’s and adults’ waiting rooms, community rooms, and more. The facility is named for Dr. Anthony Angelo, RiseWell’s Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Angelo, who has led the agency’s clinical teams for more than 20 years, was honored during the groundbreaking ceremony.
RiseWell President and CEO Philip Matcovsky acknowledged other key figures who played an instrumental role in launching the new Anthony Angelo Health Clinic and Wyandanch Youth Center. “We are grateful for the support we have received from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the local community. It has been a privilege to work with the kind and talented community of Wyandanch, and we look forward to making a positive impact on the health of the community for decades to come,” he said.
The launch of RiseWell’s new clinic is made possible by a $3 million grant from the NYSDOH and support from local officials.
“We congratulate RiseWell for investing in the health and future of Wyandanch. The comprehensive and holistic care that RiseWell will provide under one roof will be instrumental in addressing the growing need for behavioral health and youth services in Wyandanch, the surrounding communities, and across Long Island,” said Celeste M. Johnson, NYSDOH associate commissioner and regional director of the Metropolitan Area Regional Office, who served as the keynote speaker at the ceremony. “Thank you to RiseWell’s committed leadership and staff for their dedication to building health equity, reducing hospitalizations, and creating a welcoming space for people who face health and economic challenges.”
