Farmers donate fresh produce to Island Harvest

Farmers from Long Island and across the state picked and packed 10,000 pounds of locally grown fresh produce to donate to Island Harvest Food Bank.

The food donation event took place at Deer Run Farms in Brookhaven in conjunction with the New York Farm Bureau’s board of directors’ summer meeting hosted by the Long Island Farm Bureau.

Participating Long Island farms included Bayview Farms & Market, Deer Run Farms, Fink’s Country Farms, Martin Sidor Farms, Inc., Rottkamp Brothers Farms, Lenny Bruno Farms, and Lewin Farms.

Numerous studies show that food insecure people often face chronic health issues, including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and other conditions. The donation by the region’s farmers will help the food bank put healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables on the tables of people in need across Long Island.
