Green Acres celebrates Earth Month with donations and volunteers
In celebration of Earth Month, Green Acres shopping center in Valley Stream highlighted the support of two local organizations dedicated to environmental stewardship and community beautification through financial contributions and volunteer efforts.
For the second consecutive year, Green Acres provided funding to the Valley Stream Community Garden, continuing its investment in a project that has become a meaningful source of connection, education and sustainability for the local community. Building on its inaugural investment to help launch the garden last year, Green Acres contributed an additional $3,000 this year to support its continued growth and enhancements.
The Village of Valley Stream is currently in the process of forming an official Valley Stream Community Gardens nonprofit organization and has plans to further enhance the space with new features, including additional donation beds, a spiral herb garden, an art-designed walkway created by members and volunteers and a gazebo to provide shade and gathering space. Green Acres’ 2025 support enabled residents to “connect, learn, and literally grow through gardening,” according to village leadership.
In addition, the Green Acres management team participated in a community clean-up day at the garden on Friday, April 24, further demonstrating its hands-on commitment to local environmental initiatives.
As part of its broader Earth Month efforts, Green Acres will also provide funding to the Mill Brook Civic Association, its closest neighboring community.
“Earth Month is an opportunity for us to invest in the communities that surround us and support initiatives that bring people together in meaningful ways,” said Jill Bromberg, Marketing and Community Relations manager at Green Acres. “We are proud to support organizations like the Valley Stream Community Garden and the Mill Brook Civic Association, whose efforts help create greener, more connected communities.”
