The turkeys are part of more than 18,000 Thanksgiving birds the supermarket chain is giving out in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island for its annual Turkey Express program.

Last week’s event, organized by a team of Long Island commercial real estate brokers, raised more than $185,000.

Island Harvest Food Bank was awarded a $30,000 grant to advance its Kids Weekend Backpack Feeding program, which provides food for kids who rely on their school’s breakfast and lunch programs but don’t have enough to eat on weekends.

NHL Hall of Famer and founder of the Companions in Courage Foundation Pat LaFontaine will help honor some of the leaders in youth sports on Long Island at the event on Thursday, Nov. 21.

The canopy will have more than 6,100 solar panels with a generation capacity of 2.38 megawatts of clean, renewable solar energy.

Islander fans were thrilled to meet Tori, a 3-month-old Labrador Retriever puppy who will be trained to become a service dog to assist a military veteran or first responder with disabilities.

The new 17,000-square-foot facility on Carleton Avenue in Central Islip will have more kennels and more viewing rooms.
